Western meets West Coast in first-ever Billabong x Wrangler® collaboration
Saddles and surfing are an unlikely combination, but a new Billabong x Wrangler® collaboration combines the best of both worlds. The recently released, limited edition line created by the two timeless brands features a Western spin on vintage surfing style, made with eco-conscious, sustainable materials such as recycled PET, organic cotton and hemp. A second, fall-inspired wave hits shores in September 2021.
The spirit of the Wild West and the wild blue ocean came together organically, inspired by the story of Billabong founder Gordon Merchant’s favorite pair of Wrangler denim, which influenced the fit of the first pair of Billabong boardshorts. In a long-ago period when boardshorts were considered stiff and unpleasant, Merchant took comfort cues from Wrangler’s fit … and the rest was history.
In the Men’s collection, the initial line features over 40 impressive styles that blend the craftsmanship and quality of both brands, with Wrangler opening the door to Billabong’s first offering utilizing recycled PETs, hemp and organic cotton, and recycled materials. The highlight of the lineup includes the Icons boardshort, an interchange boardshort that honors both Wrangler and Billabong’s 70s soul.
The Women’s collection also offers an impressively diverse selection of styles, materials and silhouettes that recall the same 70s spirit blended with country western patterned vibes and retro-inspired graphics and hues. In addition to shorts, however, look for range jackets, denim, accessories, fleece and high-waisted cords that round out the throwback rollout.
As designers, Billabong and Wrangler also combined their love for all things both rural and riptide in the impressing advertising visuals, which feature the surf brand’s influential faces, musicians, artists and photographers often seen on the Billabong LAB platform.
